Kierieklapper River House - Marloth Park

Kierieklapper River House is situated on the southern bank of the Crocodile River in Marloth Park in the Marlothi Conservancy. The house was built in 2005 as a family home by the current owners realising a 10-year dream of owning their own home in the bush and was aptly named by their then two-year-old daughter as "ons Kampiehuis" (our camp home). In 2010 the owners decided to share their love for nature and the bush experience with others. The name "Kierieklapper" is the Afrikaans for the Russet bushwillow tree. Its origin is an interesting story. Being an ardent amateur nature lover, the owner mistakenly identified the small forest of immature lead wood trees as "kierieklapper" (Russet bushwillow) trees and announced that this should be the home's name. The mistake was later realised (with a lot of teasing), however the name stuck!
